Cancers papillary and follicular thyroid are the most common of all cancers endocrine, often affect young people and are known as well-differentiated tumors. Their prognosis is better than that of other varieties of cancers of the thyroid.
After the surgery, if there are remains tumor or at the relapse, the patients can be treated with radioiodine or radioactive iodine. For this to be effective, anti-thyroid, nail polishes, hair dyes should be suspended and the iodine of the diet be reduced, 5-7 days before and after the administration of radioiodine. These drugs and iodine to the diet prevents the thyroid to capture iodine, so that, thus reversing the effect of the treatment.
During one or two weeks after receiving radioiodine should not abuse of iodine in the diet, drinking plenty of fluids (2-3 litres) to remove the radioactive iodine in the urine more quickly and do physical exercise to recover from the effects of the treatment.

The rest of the life, patients can return to eating foods with iodine, but it is recommended to control the daily amounts are always rather low.
